Sparkle Weekly Wondering

This week we revisit and add to the collection of stories that has transformed me as a teacher, storyteller, and citizen of the United States — FIFTY: the Stars, the States, and the Stories. We finished the original collection months ago, but knew that we needed to return to include the districts and territories to better demonstrate the full response to the question ,“What is America?”

I am very proud of these stories. I don’t feel a particular ownership of the content as each story is inspired by real events and actual historical figures. From the Native Americans that met Scandinavian traders to the German immigrants who built the first rockets to land on the moon, the characters in these stories are as rich and diverse as the entire world. This is ultimately what America has come to mean for me: diversity — and all the conflict, authenticity, communication, and resolution that comes with it.

I hope you enjoy the first of these additional stories, “Washington DC: The Dress.” I encourage everyone to download our extensive ebook about the stories and how to use them HERE.
